For SK Telecom, selling its money losing MVNO in the U.S., Helio, to Virgin Mobile Inc. is like end of a chapter of its big dream.
 
SK Telecom learned a very hard lesson from its experience in the U.S. market. It planned to acquire Sprint-Nextel Corp. at over five billion dollars so as to give a boost to the struggling Helio and take a step further into the U.S. market. In the end, however, SK Telecom had to take a step, not into but out.

Satellite DMB Falling without Hope

Satellite DMB service first commercialized by South Korea is doing a free fall.

Presently TU Media, an affiliate of SK Telecom and the only S-DMB service provider that enables users to watch TV on cell phones with a satellite receiver or navigation systems have about 1.3 million subscribers, almost the same as the last year. It is doubtful whether the number will reach 1.5 million by the yearend.
